UniProtKB description:  Acts together with mto1 to promote nucleation of at least a subset of cytoplasmic microtubules, by recruiting the gamma-tubulin complex to the interphase microtubule organizing center (iMTOC) and to the equatorial MTOC (eMTOC) during anaphase (PubMed:15659644, PubMed:15800064, PubMed:19001497). Does not appear to be required for cytoplasmic astral microtubule nucleation from the spindle pole body (SPB) (PubMed:15659644, PubMed:15800064). Required to establish the eMTOC, and thereby to tether the cytokinetic actin ring (PubMed:15800064).
