UniProtKB description:  NADPH-dependent codeinone reductase involved in biosynthesis of morphinan-type benzylisoquinoline and opiate alkaloids natural products (PubMed:10417697, PubMed:29779229, PubMed:15543134). Reduces codeinone to codeine in the penultimate step in morphine biosynthesis (PubMed:10417697, PubMed:15543134, PubMed:22098111). Can use morphinone, hydrocodone and hydromorphone as substrate during reductive reaction with NADPH as cofactor, and morphine and dihydrocodeine as substrate during oxidative reaction with NADP as cofactor (PubMed:10417697). Converts morphinone to morphine, and neomorphinone to neomorphine (PubMed:29779229). Reduces irreversibly neopinone, a spontaneous isomer of codeinone, to neopine; in planta, neopine levels are limited to low levels (PubMed:29779229).
