UniProtKB description:  An essential cysteine protease that cleaves the N-terminal 9 amino acids from ribosomal protein bL27 (PubMed:25388641). Also acts as an N-terminal protease on the major capsid and scaffold assembly proteins of bacteriophage 80alpha (PubMed:25388641). Cleavage of the N-terminus of bL27 (and thus this enzyme) is essential for growth; it cannot be replaced by a 'pre-cleaved' or non-cleavable form of bL27 (PubMed:28187498, PubMed:25388641). Might serve a chaperone function during ribosome assembly (PubMed:28187498, PubMed:35731716) (Probable).
