UniProtKB description:  Facilitator of innate immune signaling that acts as a sensor of second messenger signals produced by cyclic GMP-AMP synthase-like receptors (cGLRs) and promotes the production of type I interferon (PubMed:37379839). Innate immune response is triggered in response to nucleotides from viruses and bacteria delivered to the cytoplasm (PubMed:37379839). Acts by binding cyclic dinucleotides: recognizes and binds cyclic 3'-3' linked cGAMP (3'-3'-cGAMP), cyclic di-AMP (3',3'-c-di-AMP) and cyclic di-GMP (3',3'-c-di-GMP) second messengers produced by cGLRs in response to nucleotides in the cytosol, such as double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) (PubMed:37379839). Upon binding to 3'-3'-cGAMP, 3',3'-c-di-AMP or 3',3'-c-di-GMP, oligomerizes and promotes the recruitment and subsequent activation of the transcription factor IRF3 to induce expression of type I interferon (By similarity).
