SPT5 is a multidomain protein consisting of an N-terminal NusG domain (Pfam:PF03439), tandem of KOW domains and and a mobile C-terminal-repeat region. The KOW domains differ in number between yeast, which has five, and animals, which have seven. This entry represents the seventh KOW domain of Spt5 from animals, which is located at the very C-terminal of the sequences [2]. The KOW domains of these proteins play critical roles in recruitment of multiple other eukaryotic transcription elongation and RNA biogenesis factors and they are also involved in the binding of the eukaryotic Spt5 proteins to RNA polymerases.
