UniProtKB description:  Part of the sulfoquinovose monooxygenase (sulfo-SMO) pathway, a D-sulfoquinovose degradation pathway that enables the complete utilization of all carbons within sulfoquinovose (SQ) with concomitant production of inorganic sulfite (PubMed:35074914). Catalyzes the first step of the pathway, the hydrolysis of sulfoquinovosyl glycerol (SQGro) to release sulfoquinovose (SQ) (PubMed:30276262). Hydrolyzes both epimers of SQGro, with a preference for the natural 2'R isomer (PubMed:30276262). In vitro, can use the substrate analog para-nitrophenyl alpha-sulfoquinovoside (PNPSQ), but shows no detectable activity toward 4-nitrophenyl alpha-D-glucopyranoside (PNPGlc) (PubMed:30276262).
