peptidyl-dipeptidase A M-CSA #170 | Angiotensin I-converting enzymes (ACEs) are zinc metalloproteases that cleave dipeptides from the C-termini of short peptide hormones. In humans, ACE has an important role in regulating blood pressure and heart maintenance by catalysing the production of the hypertensive peptide angiotensin II from angiotensin I and the destruction of the hypotensive peptide bradykinin. ACE has minimal sequence homology with other zinc proteases, but it does share the HExxH zinc-binding motif of the well-studied zinc metalloprotease thermolysin. | Defined by 8 residues: HIS:A-317 [auth A-353]ALA:A-318 [auth A-354]HIS:A-347 [auth A-383]GLU:A-348 [auth A-384]HIS:A-351 [auth A-387]GLU:A-375 [auth A-411]HIS:A-477 [auth A-513]TYR:A-487 [auth A-523] | EC: 3.4.15.1 (PDB Primary Data) |
