    On July 21, 2027, wwPDB will stop issuing 4-character PDB IDs.

    New PDB depositions will only receive 12-character IDs (e.g., pdb_1000axyz) and will be assigned DOIs based on these extended IDs (e.g., 10.2210/pdb_1000axyz/pdb). All 12 characters are included in DOIs for structures deposited after July 20, 2027.

    PDB structures deposited before July 21, 2027 are assigned 4- and 12-character IDs. The DOI format with the “pdb” prefix (e.g., 10.2210/pdb1abc/pdb) will remain unchanged.
