Search for structures by the name of an author of the PDB entry or the associated primary citation.
All PDB entries contain the name(s) of one or more authors that submitted the entry to the PDB. These names are in the AUTHOR record of the PDB file and in the _audit_author.name field in the mmCIF file. In addition, most entries list a primary citation, whose authors are in the JRNL AUTH record in the PDB file and in the _citation_author.name field in the mmCIF file. In many structures, these two sets of author names are the same, but they can differ.
The Author Name search can search either or both of these author name fields. Citation author searches are limited to the primary citation. Names should be entered either as last name only or in the form "last name, initial(s)"
The "Exact Match" option determines whether the name, including any initials, typed into the search has to exactly match the full author name. For example, if a last name and just one initial is typed into the search box, the results will include all author names with that last name as long as one of their initials matches the one specified.
Select All Authors from the pull down menu, type Miller in the text box, and leave the "Exact Match" box unchecked.
This returns all structures that have a structure author or a primary citation author with last name Miller.
Select Structure Authors from the pull down menu, type Miller, A. in the text box, and leave the "Exact Match" box unchecked.
This returns all structures that have a structure author with last name Miller and an initial A. Note that this includes the author names Miller, M.A. and Miller, A.F.. Structures with such an author name in the primary citation, but not amongst the authors of the PDB entry itself, are not returned.
Select Structure Authors from the pull down menu, type Miller, A.F. in the text box, and check the "Exact Match" box.
This returns all structures that have a structure author Miller, A.F.. Note that structures with author name Miller, M.A. from the previous example are no longer included.
