Web Application Developer

  • The Research Collaboratory for Structural Bioinformatics at Rutgers University is seeking applications for a web application developer.

    This successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining high performance scalable database-driven web applications and project intranet web sites. This includes the design, code development, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation preparation to satisfy project requirements. This candidate is also responsible for analyzing existing application design, and code to improve quality, mitigate issues and improve performance and functionality.

    • BS Degree in Computer Science or comparable combination of education and experience with considerable focus in Java and JavaScript development. Degree in bioinformatics, computational biology or chemistry, or related scientific field or comparable combination of education and experience with extensive knowledge and research experience with biological and chemical application software and data analyses preferred.
    • Experience with the Drupal and the LAMP (Linux, Mysql, PHP) technology stack is required.
    • Experience developing responsive presentation layer of a dynamic, database-driven web applications using HTML5, front-end CSS frameworks such as Bootstrap, JavaScript, JavaScript Toolkits, Ajax, and Java/JSP.
    • Experience resolving browser and cross-platform compatibility issues.

Scientific Application Programmer

  • The Protein Data Bank (RCSB PDB http://www.rcsb.org/) project at Rutgers University has a position open for a scientific application programmer with experience in computational biology or chemistry, or structural bioinformatics. The incumbent will work with the staff at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, to design, produce and maintain new data processing and annotation tools for macromolecular structure data.

    The position requires: Minimum of Bachelor's degree, higher degree preferred, in Computational Biology or related discipline; some further experience in bioinformatics, structural-biology, biology, and/or chemistry; proficiency in programming languages Java, C++,and Python. Demonstrated experience with the following is highly desirable: design and development of large software application systems; webuser interface development using Java, Javascript and AJAX; web service development using SOAP and REST; database application development using JDBC and MySQL. The position holder should be able collaborate with broad, multidisciplinary teams. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
