PROTEIN CRYSTALLOGRAPHY BEAMLINE MANAGER POSITION

             ======================================================
             PROTEIN CRYSTALLOGRAPHY BEAMLINE MANAGER POSITION
                           (Assistant Professor - Research)
            ======================================================
                     Gulf Coast Protein Crystallography Consortium
            ======================================================

The Gulf Coast Protein Crystallography Consortium (GCPCC) is
constructing a protein crystallography beamline for MAD data collection
(http://www.bioc.rice.edu/GCPCC/) at the CAMD/LSU synchrotron in Baton,
Rouge Louisiana (http://camd.lsu.edu/). The Beamline Manager position
is funded through an 8 University Consortium and grants from the NSF and
NIH, and is administered by LSU. This is a Ph.D level position
requiring experience in macromolecular crystallography. An Assistant
Beamline Manager has already been hired to work with the Beamline
Manager to complete construction and to operate and maintain the
beamline. The Assistant Beamline Manager is an instrument specialist
with programing experience, and will assist the Manager in daily
operation and maintenance of the beamline. The main optical components
of the beamline are to be installed by Oxford Instruments this April.
First light will occur in June, with full operation to occur after a
three month shake-down period. The Manager's primary duties are
maintaining the beamline, and assisting users (Consortium and outside)
with data collection on the beamline. It is expected that the Manager
will be the driving force in recruiting and servicing our outside user
community (25% beamtime), through traditional visitor programs and a
"Fed-Ex" send crystals program.
