Structures of the RNAP–rifampin complex ( T. aquaticus core enzyme, PDB: 1YNN; E. coli holoenzyme, PDB: 4KMU) provided a detailed view of the interaction between rifampin and the β subunit and explained how rifampin blocks RNA extension [ 80 , 81 ].
