An analysis of all DNA-bound structures of members of the TetR family (14 structures deposited in the PDB belonging to 11 different regulators) shows that binding of DNA requires a closed conformation... of the regulator, with distances between the residues equivalent to Leu56 in the range of 34.5 Å for ms654 (PDB: 4JL3 ) to 39.5 Å for SlmA (PDB: 4GCK ) (average value of 36.86 Å)  .
