The second is the square planar coordination complex surrounding one of the Ni 2+ atoms found in the bacterial urease molecule (PDB - 2UBP and reference 8 ).

Nickel on the other hand, has no known biological role in humans but is used by some microbes; the best known being the two Ni 2+ atoms at the active site of bacterial urease (see the PDB structure 2UBP and see Fig. 2 ).

As starting structure, the native urease crystal structure from Bacillus pasteurii (PDB code 2UBP) was used [ 11 ].

The interatomic distance is slightly shorter (3.48 versus 3.6 Å in 2UBP), and the site also differs in the orientation of the rotated aspartate.
