Diffraction data were indexed with XDS [ 36 ], solved using CNS v1.2 [ 37 , 38 ] by molecular replacement using PDB 1N6M [ 13 ] as a search model, and refined with CNS v1.2.

Comparison of the P-loop and flanking residues (I430-T443) of NcdT436S with NcdN600K (PDB 1N6M ) [ 13 ] and wild-type Ncd (PDB 2NCD , PDB 1CZ7 ) [ 2 , 17 ] shows that the NcdT436S chains superimpose with the other two models.
